Back Issues Are Unique
The legs, the position of the pelvis and shoulders, and health history strongly influence the health of your back. Our multi-faceted Back Care Program helps students alleviate pain and ease structural imbalances.
How Yoga Helps
Yoga provides a holistic approach to back care – that is to say, it addresses the body, the breath and the mind. You will learn about your back, identify muscles that need to release and areas of weakness that need strengthening. Consequently you become empowered to be a key player in your spinal health. Recent medical studies demonstrate that Iyengar yoga has been an effective approach to back health and other health issues. Read more →

Three Tiered Approach
Deep muscle work in class was incredible yesterday. By afternoon I noticed I had a change in my gait. Realized I had some muscle reaction, not pain, but some kind of energy. I’m walking more like I use to walk, today. Funny! Thanks so much, Kerry. You are incredible teacher.
Thank you so much for the class last night focusing on the SI joint. I have had such a good day today with less pain in my left SI joint and piriformis. I did my best to recreate the class on my own today and I think I did pretty well- did about 40 minutes. It’s so nice to have another tool in my back health toolkit!
Kerry’s use of props is very effective. One day when concentrating on the upper body, she had us use our straps in a similar fashion to how my husband (a physician) has shown me when bothered by neck and shoulder issues.
