Peter H.- male student – Kerry is very serious about her own practice and about her teaching, yet there is plenty of levity and camaraderie in her classes. I am 60 years old and my body is changing. I can’t do some of the things I used to be able to do. Kerry works with me to avoid injury and to promote well being. Yoga can be quite challenging, but working with a good teacher makes the effort entirely worthwhile. Kerry is a very good teacher.

Diana D. – Female student, 52. The first I ever heard of Iyengar was a rumor that a class may spend an hour on a single pose – standing. So, I avoided it for years. What a mistake that was!

After just a few classes, I’m now a fan of Iyengar yoga. Classes at AHA Kerry tend to be small classes – that allow folks like me, new to yoga, to try new it in a way that’s both thoughtful and safe, with no pressure to do anything that I don’t want to.

I especially like when we learn from each other, versus simply ‘following the leader.’ We’re all teachers and learners in class.

Jackie K. – Female student 50

Kerry Doyle introduced me to Iyengar Yoga, a form of yoga characterized by attention to detail. We are encouraged to use props ( belts, blocks, pillows etc.) to get into the correct pose. The props allow everybody the benefit of the poses. I have learned a lot about yoga philosophy and the strengths and limits of my body. Kerry’s class is stimulating, her style of teaching very encouraging.

On a personal note I can recommend Iyengar Yoga as a form of physical therapy, I greatly benefited from a series of individual yoga classes.

Lois – Female student – 49

Eighteen months (and 15 pounds!) ago, I discovered Iyengar-style Yoga. Soon after, I found AHA and I was thrilled. The most important things about this type of yoga for me so far have been the use of both props and the body’s own resistance against itself, and the focus on the form. After having several different teachers of this style, I have also found that Iyengar instructors are well-trained and consistently “true to form,” while still encouraging each individual to stretch themselves “any amount” that they can.

Liza – Female student – 33 I discovered Iyengar yoga when I was five months pregnant with my second child and experiencing a lot of back pain.  During my regular yoga class the instructor recommended Kerry to me.  Although I had practiced yoga for five years prior this was my first introduction to Iyengar Yoga and I was not sure what to expect.  Kerry was extremely welcoming and very willing to work with a pregnant student.  Kerry had endless ideas for variations to yoga postures and props to use during (and after) my pregnancy that would keep me (and my baby) safe. Her yoga classes helped get me through the rest of my pregnancy and I even found myself using some of the relaxation techniques and Pranayamas during labor. 10 weeks after my baby was born I was practicing yoga again with Kerry and continue today (over a year later).  Kerry is patient, willing to answer questions, and a fun teacher.  I feel that I have a much better understanding of alignment and body awareness in yoga postures as a result of Kerry’s yoga classes.  I have even started a bit of a home practice since discovering Kerry’s Iyengar Yoga classes – which has taken me over seven years of practicing yoga to do! I look forward to more yoga classes!  Thank you…
